Guide
The 10 best-rated dentists in Hamilton
We rank with the same standard method IMDb and Trustpilot use: a practice needs both a high rating and enough patients behind it, so five stars from a dozen people does not beat 4.9 from nine hundred. Each is then described from the 1,015 reviews we read across the ten. No practice can pay for a place here.

How we rank practices
Every ranked list on this site is ordered by the same weighted score, and by nothing else. We do not sell position, and a practice paying to manage its listing does not move up.
Ranking on the raw star average alone would put a practice with one five-star review above one with six hundred reviews averaging 4.8. So each practice's own average is pulled towards the average across the whole directory, and how far it is pulled depends on how many reviews it has:
score = (R ÷ (R + 100)) × rating + (100 ÷ (R + 100)) × C
where R is the practice's review count and C is the mean rating
across every rated practice in the directory, currently 4.58.
In plain terms, a practice needs enough reviews to be trusted with its own average. At 100 reviews it counts half its own rating and half the directory mean; by 1,000 reviews it is almost entirely its own. The 100 is the median review count across the practices we list.
The formula is not ours. It is a Bayesian average, the standard way to rank things with very different numbers of ratings, in the form IMDb publishes for its Top 250. Trustpilot's TrustScore uses the same shape.
This list covers practices a patient can join for general care. Clinics that see patients only by referral, or that offer a single specialty such as orthodontics or urgent care, are not included. A practice counts as being in Hamilton if it is inside the official built-up area of Hamilton, the boundary of continuous development published in national statistics.
Ratings and review counts come from Google and are refreshed every month, so the order of the ten can change. For the full breakdown of all our methods, see our methodology page.
What the summaries are built from
For each practice we read the 1,015 most relevant Google reviews across the ten and counted how often patients raised each subject. The percentages in each summary are those counts, and the bars beside them are the counts themselves. Where a practice has more than two hundred reviews we read the two hundred Google ranks as most relevant, so the counts describe that sample rather than its whole history.
Treatment lists come from what each practice publishes on its own website, so a practice may offer treatments nobody has reviewed. Every practice above is described from what patients wrote, from what the practice publishes, and from nothing else.
Ratings change. This page was built on 24 October 2026 and the figures were correct that day. If you are a practice listed here and something is wrong, tell us and we will correct it at no charge.
