Correcting a listing
Correcting mistakes in existing content is free. Adding new content needs a plan. Here is exactly what that means, field by field, and what we can and cannot help with.

Correcting mistakes in existing content is free. Adding new content needs a plan. If something we have already published about your practice contains a mistake, use our correction form and we will put it right, on any listing, whether or not the practice pays us, and whether or not you ever claim it. New content means anything we do not already hold: prices next to your treatments, photos, video, social media links, an online booking link, or more in the sections we only show partially, such as more treatments than we found or more of your team than the two we show. We are an information directory, not a complaints service, so we do not get involved in disputes between patients and practices.
We build every listing from public records before any practice is involved, so some of it will be out of date or simply wrong. When it is, that is our mistake to put right, not something to charge for. Correcting is not the same as rewriting: if what we published is accurate, rewording it to read better is part of a plan, not a correction. Every field we publish falls into one of four groups.
1. Complete on every listing. A mistake here is free to fix
These are on your page whether or not you have ever heard of us, and they are meant to be complete. That means a gap counts as a mistake too: hours that show Monday to Friday when you open on Saturday are wrong, not just short. Tell us and we will correct it at no cost, on a free listing or a paid one.
- Practice name
- Address, map and directions. The address is verified and is not editable in the editor. Tell us and we will change it
- Phone number. UK numbers only, including the area code
- Website address
- Opening hours. Hours are meant to be complete, so a missing day counts as a mistake too. Tell us the days and times that are wrong
If a practice has closed, tell us and we will remove the listing. That is free too.
2. Partial by design. Mistakes are free to fix, adding more needs a plan
We publish these where we found them and leave them off where we did not, so two practices can have very different pages. Both halves of the rule apply at once here. If we published it and it contains a mistake, correcting it is free. A treatment you do not offer, we take off. A dentist who has left, we remove. Adding what we never found is new content, and that needs a plan. Your team is the clearest example: we show up to two people, and if one of those names or roles is wrong, that is a free correction. Showing your whole team is an addition, so it is part of a plan.
- NHS or private status (where we know it). If what we show is wrong, tell us and we will correct it free
- Treatments and services (what we could find). If we list a treatment the practice does not do, or describe one wrongly
- Your team (two people). A wrong name, role or qualification, or someone who no longer works there
- Facilities and access (what we could find)
- Patient information (what we could find)
- Payment plans and membership (what we could find)
- Technology (what we could find)
- Description (our short intro). If something in the short description we wrote is wrong. Rewording an accurate one is what a plan is for
One thing we always do free: if what we show about NHS treatment at your practice is wrong, tell us and we will correct it. It is a single fact that decides whether a patient can afford care, so it should never sit behind a plan.
How to tell us: if you work at the practice or are authorised to act for it, use our correction form. You do not need an account and there is nothing to pay. Tell us the detail that is wrong and what it should say, with a source if you have one. We check corrections against the regulator's record before publishing.
We action corrections as soon as we can, and prioritise anything that could mislead someone. While we check, we may temporarily hide the disputed detail.
3. On no listing until you add it. That is what a plan is for
These cannot contain a mistake, because we publish none of them for any practice. A practice adds them with a managed listing, and then owns them: it can change them in minutes, whenever they change. Prices are the clearest example, and the reason is simple. A price is only useful if it is current, and the only person who can guarantee that is the practice. See Plans.
- Prices next to your treatments
- Photos
- Video
- Social media links
- An online booking link
Additions do not come through this route, on a free listing or a paid one. On the We Do it For You plan we make the additions for you, but they go through your concierge request form rather than here, so they reach the person who does them. If a practice has published one of these itself and it is wrong in a way that could mislead a patient, still tell us: we will look at it and can remove the detail while it is in doubt.
4. Not ours to change, on any plan
Some things stay independent, because that is what makes them worth anything. A rating a practice could edit would tell a patient nothing. These change when the regulator or the review platform publishes something new, not when anyone asks, and we refresh our copy on a schedule.
- Patient reviews and star rating. Independently sourced. Tell us if you believe a review breaks the rules and we will look into it
- Regulatory status and inspection reports. This changes when the regulator publishes, not when anyone asks. We refresh our copy on a schedule. If we have attached the wrong practice's record to your listing, that is our mistake and we fix it free
If we have attached the wrong practice's regulator record to your listing, that is our identity mistake, not a disagreement with the regulator, and we fix it free.
Removing or correcting personal data
Correcting or removing personal data is always free, whatever plan you are on. If you are an individual and want your personal data corrected or removed, see your rights in the Privacy notice, or email [email protected].
What we help with, and what we don't
We list dental practices that are regulated in their nation, using published information. We are not able to help with complaints or disputes about the care, conduct or service you received from a practice. Those are a matter between you and the practice.
If something genuinely serious is brought to our attention about a listed practice, we will look into whether it should remain listed. But we do not investigate, mediate or advise on individual grievances, and we are not a route for making a complaint about a practice.
A concern about Dentist Locator itself
If your concern is about us, our content, our conduct, or how we handled your data, email [email protected]. For data-protection concerns you can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). We are registered with the ICO as a data controller, reference ZC200549. Your rights, and how to exercise them, are set out in our Privacy notice.
