Dencall - Sunderland Royal Hospital

Came in with my son for an emergency after calling 111, who advised he needed immediate attention from a doctor. But it felt like nobody cared or understood the urgency. There were no queues, and I was the only one waiting with my son, yet we still waited over three hours after the initial assessment to see a doctor. It’s called an emergency unit, but it didn’t feel like one at all. I honestly don’t know what to say. All I could hear was doctors laughing and chatting while we waited. Time mid night - 3am

17/12/25 I spent this morning at the Sunderland Royal outpatients in the Trauma & Orthopaedics Outpatient Clinic and Medical Physics for appointments, and also visited the X-ray. As I went through the hospital, it looked newly refurbished and was spotless. It was so lovely to see how much effort had been put into making it festive. Every tree, and there were many, looked wonderful. Some staff members wore little headbands with antlers and ears or bells. It was lovely to see. In the past year I have been treated by 2 different departments for cancer, Head and neck and Urology and all the staff I have met have been amazing. The specialist teams both departments have for cancer patients are very knowledgeable, explain different treatments so you can understand fully what to expect and tell you bluntly how it is and what needs to be done, no beating around the bush, and I liked that because at least you can really know what you are up against, some people won't like it but with cancer you need straight talkers. Sunderland Royal hospital has been offering great medical services. It has its 24/7 emergency services. The hospital is clean and neat and the nurses are doing exceptionally good. Offering g great services to humanity. There is a little renovation going on on the outside and this is well managed to avoid any form of crisis. Great service
